VIRTUAL: Support Hurricane Relief Efforts Through Emory Cares
Traditionally, Emory Cares organizes local, hands-on volunteerism in support of organizations around the world. This year, Emory Cares is doing one project that's a bit different; we're calling for our community to support those recovering from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. We know alumni in the affected communities are working as hard as they can to rebuild and repair in Asheville, in Tampa Bay and in Southeast Georgia.
Please join the Emory Alumni Association and Emory Community in supporting their efforts, by supporting the organizations below. Each organization works locally to ensure much needed supplies and funds are available for the long road to recovery ahead.
Please register on this site for Emory Cares credit, and then visit the below links.
In Western North Carolina, Hearts with Hands is on the ground providing food, supplies, heaters and more to the flood-devastated communities impacted by Helene. Learn more here - https://www.heartswithhands.org/donate
Southeast Georgia's agriculture community was hard hit, with farmers losing near-harvest crops like pecans, and losing future crops when orchards were devastated by winds and flooding. The Georgia Bureau of Farms launched Weathered But Strong to help this region; learn more here - https://www.gfb.org/hurricane-relief#Donate
Tampa Bay's Metropolitan Ministries, led by Emory's own Molly James (89C) is providing water, food and shelter to those in need across Tampa Bay. They're serving hot meals in more than 40 locations across the community as the area responds to back-to-back hurricanes. Learn more here - https://secured.metromin.org/page/40506/donate/1?_ga=2.89259228.651571554.1729873706-147741318.1729873706
Your involvement helps local organizations support local needs. Watching news coverage and hearing the first hand accounts of friends and family members who've lost so much is hard. It can make us feel helpless to watch from afar and not be able to lend a hand.
By supporting these virtually, you ARE lending a hand and you're honoring the Emory Cares tradition of serving others.

Prairie Creek Preserve and the surrounding 1,150 acres were purchased by ACT between 2005 and 2015. The remainder comprises Prairie Creek Preserve, a 606-acre nature preserve that includes Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery, a natural burial ground that also conserves land. Prairie Creek drains Newnans Lake, one of the largest lakes in north Florida, towards Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park and Orange Lake. The upland areas of the preserve are made up of flatwoods, mesic and hydric hammocks, and wetlands that include cypress swamps, depression marshes, and blackwater streams.
