finding employment, learning American culture, becoming friends, understanding
healthcare, document assistance, transportation, financial aid, daily
skills/living assistance, learning English, and others.
Note: you don't have to
be an expert in any of these areas, just the ability to support immigrants by
researching resources for them is enough. If you are a recent immigrant, you
can receive help from Buddies.

Give the Gift of Learning: Support Our Tanzania Supply
Drive!
Imagine a classroom with worn-out notebooks and pencils shared between students. Now, picture the smiles that light up faces when they receive brand new supplies.
Last year, Connor Genschaw 22C and Emma West 23C spent a
month volunteering at Shine School and Fruitful Orphanage just outside Arusha,
Tanzania in East Africa. They witnessed
firsthand the incredible spirit of these children and the dedication of their
teachers. However, they also saw the challenges they face due to a lack of
essential supplies. That's why they are
launching a virtual supply drive for these organizations through Emory Cares.
Your donation can make a world of difference. An Amazon wish list has been created with a variety of school supplies, toys, games and cleaning supplies. The link will be provided in the confirmation email. Please select the "this is a gift option" and include your name / Emory Cares so that we can track your contribution.
And we're flexible! If you have something you think would be valuable but isn't on the list, don't hesitate to reach out to project lead, Emma West 23C at emmagwest4201@gmail.com for more details.
Every contribution, big or small, will bring joy and
empower these children to learn and thrive.
See the impact for yourself!

FL: Boca Raton - Gleaning (Produce Recovery) Event
Saturday, April 13,
9 a.m. -
11 a.m. Eastern
Palm Beach County area - exact address will be provided a day or two before the event.
more information
Gleaning is a program of CROS Ministries, in partnership
with area Food Banks and other food distribution agencies. It is a food
recovery strategy that allows produce that is below top market grade or
unmarketable, but equally nutritious and beneficial to be harvested and
distributed to the food insecure of Palm Beach County instead of being plowed
back into the soil.
Since people live apart from where their food is grown,
gleaning requires volunteers who will bridge the gap between the field and the
pantry to bring food to locations where people in need can receive it. Farmers
donate the produce they cannot sell to CROS Ministries.
Volunteers gather the
produce. Our food-distributing partners then distribute the recovered produce
to local agencies with feeding programs for individuals and families with
low-incomes, seniors, people with disabilities, and the unhoused. The food is
given away free of charge.
* No minimum age for participants, but children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent.
